Some Cover Work
At the moment I am nearly two weeks late in finishing my current project. That's my personal deadline, not one that's imposed on me from outside, which can be both good and bad. The story is the first of the next romance trilogy that takes place on the Tohay Islands in the middle of the Indian Ocean. I am at that stage, and have been for several weeks of saying, I'm about 5,000 to 8,000 words from the end. No matter how many words I write - and there have... Read more...
An AI Conundrum
I was going to leave it another month, at least, before writing about AI again. What triggered the change of mind was the revision of guidelines to a publication I've sent stories to before. The guidelines for the publication now include this statement: planning, editing, modifying or generating text using AI will not be accepted. There's a follow up sentence that asks you to declare if you use AI in any way. That last sentence implies there's some leeway, but it seems very subjective to me. One of my editing... Read more...
Counting Words
Last week I was reviewing my count of words written to the end of May this year. For a lot of reasons, May was not a good writing month and pulled the annual count down by several thousand words. Down the Rabbit Hole
This past couple of weeks has been very much like Alice's descent into the rabbit hole. Unfortunately the end point wasn't Wonderland, but frustration. My day job corporation has made a commitment to educating everyone about AI with ten weeks of courses, videos, and projects. On the very positive side, this was a kick I needed to learn more about a technology that will completely change our lives, if it hasn't already . Our IT Team did an extensive evaluation of the various options and settled on Claude from Anthropic.... Read more...
The Muse and The Scribe
This past few weeks have been hard on writing, last week especially. Words are getting onto the page but it feels hard and labored and unsatisfactory. A part of me knows it's probably my Critical Voice making the current work in progress more important than it really is. Except putting that manuscript aside and spending time on one of my "experimental" didn't solve the problem. Usually, I can write five hundred or a thousand words on those projects because they are experimental, and at this point I'm not intending to... Read more...
